Hello from Genesis Home Care, LLC. I didn’t write anything in the month of March which came as a surprise to me. I knew it would be a slow month since I was having an eye procedure done in combination of taking a vacation, I knew there would be some down time but, it ended up lasting the entire month. It is now the beginning of April, and I am back, healthy, recharged and ready to share with you the things we at Genesis Home Care find of importance, pertinent, and refreshing to our readers for an ever-striving goal of comprehensive living to empower the whole you- mind, body, and soul/spirit.
As mentioned we have just entered into the fourth month of the year of 2018, April – wow!! We have seen wild weather from the east to the west coast of the continental US, from torrential rain and mud slides, Nor’easter’s with frigid cold chills and extreme winds, to heavy snow dumps, not to mention the normal hectic, frantic melee of day-to-day living. With all of this it is easy to forget goals and aspirations that you may have set for yourself or your family at the beginning of the year. And with this the beginning of the second quarter of this new year I wanted to revisit what is commonly termed New Year’s Resolutions.
Each year resolutions are made to begin usually in the first week of January and most people have abandoned them by the third week of January, and most others by the first week of February and there are a few that last the first three months of the year. By this time of year (April) resolutions are all but forgotten. It doesn’t matter the resolution, whether it is the most popular type- physical fitness, or diet, strengthening family cohesiveness, spiritual growth or financial wealth building they all have an origination from a good place with a positive purpose and reasoning. However, they just seem to fizzle out and before we know it weeks or months have passed without us practicing these new habits and we throw in the towel on our resolution.
But what is a resolution? I mean why attempt to start one in the first place? I like to think that a resolution comes from the acknowledge understanding that you believe that there is some sort of short coming in your way of current living and you have the core belief that you can change it. Not to say you are living a wrecked doomed life, but that you see areas that you would like to improve in. Humans have the ability to greatly control a lot in our lives if we properly pursue them. I believe in this. You innately know this or you wouldn’t attempt a resolution. But the day-to-day bogs us down, trips up our minds, interferes the starting point and the finish line with a fog of confusion.
Hence, the reason for this article. Genesis Home Care LLC wants to encourage you to re-engage with your resolution. Think back to your initial motivating factor for implementing the resolution. Was it because the doctor told you are in danger of developing type 2 or adult onset diabetes? Or on the brink of having hypertension (high blood pressure)? Which both type 2 and pre-hypertension can be mitigated with proper dietary alterations? Did you come across a picture in your photo stream or photo album from three, five, seven summers ago and liked what you saw compared to where you are at now? Maybe your family time has dwindled due to a health scare, a new job, change in shiftwork, or location. Did your bank account take a financial hit from unexpected circumstance or a lack of proper custodial controls? Did you and a friend make a bond with each other to complete a 5k or a 10k together? How about the annual Peachtree Road Race?
Each day attempt to have some time for yourself. I’m not talking about a two-hour spa splurge or an exquisite meal for one. But try taking the first few moments 3-7 minutes of each ending day and decompress, relax and think about what you accomplished that day, pat yourself on the back. In mornings, in those first few waking moments focus on you, your needs, collect your thoughts, and organize yourself, prepare yourself, decompress and anticipate.
Regardless of what it was, how small or the magnitude lets refocus. Let’s get back in the race.
There is a paradoxical question that fits to answer all goals, aspirations, and resolutions. It is “How do you eat an elephant?” The answer is simple… “one bite at a time!” Of course, it seems impossible to handle such a task but if you never start you will never finish. The only people who are guaranteed to not finish something are those that never begin. So, it doesn’t matter if you have come across obstacles since January, that is okay! Let’s pick the “fork” back up and continue on taking those small bites out of the task of hitting that goal, becoming the better you.
