Genesis Home Care would like to recognize that the holiday season is upon us. There are many holidays through out the year and each has a reason for us to take a moment and reflect upon the past, the present the future. What is important to each of us; the sacrifice of others; the accomplishments people have achieved, and love of family and humanity as a whole; to be thankful and giving of ourselves. Truly, each day is an honorably blessed gift and should be greeted with enthusiasm and fervent joy. I once heard a saying that goes-“if you find yourself having woke up on the wrong side of bed with a less than grateful attitude. Then you should hurry back into that bed and get out on the other side!!” Wake up and smile! Begin a new day with optimistic hope and drive.
However, the holidays do hold a precious space in peoples hearts and minds the world over, no matter the culture, ethnic group or country. I like to think that the primary reason is that they provide people time to commune and brake bread with close friends and family. But, in order to stay honest, I have to say, in todays world that a close second is probably that holidays also provide a day or days off of work and who doesn’t like that. Yet, nothing beats socializing with family and friends, and this time of year (for many in North America) provides that opportunity more than any other.
As you travel and begin to fellowship be mindful of safety at all times. Check to make sure you have working smoke/heat detectors, carbon monoxide detectors. Have functioning and charged fire extinguishers. While cooking be ever vigilant with grease, prevent over-heating. During this season grease fires, propane fires and candle fires increase dramatically. Electrical fires which are the main cause of fires annually also increase. Please don’t overload your circuits, and outlets. Make sure you and all your guest know the exit points. Have emergency contact numbers on the ready. Eliminate tripping hazards. Place salt or other anti slip mechanism in place for snow and ice. Give yourself extra time to travel for the increased levels in traffic as well as potential inclement weather. Be prepared and be safe!
We ask that you keep what is important to your spiritual, mental, and emotional health first. Enjoy this season, analyze those things in life that come to us for free (family, life, joy, etc..) for those are the things to be cherished. Remember those less fortunate than you and be grateful. Call a loved one, a friend, a new associate and use this season to let them know they are important. Be a blessing to yourself by blessing others.
